Morning Beverage Addictions
Let’s talk morning beverages. We’ve got an obsession with them around here. Coffee, tea, the occasional Diet Coke. I, personally, have an espresso obsession. It started at a young age, and I blame my mother for this. (Just like I blame her for my good looks and shoe addiction). I guess there were other culprits, like Crane Coffee in Omaha. They made these frozen blended coffees called Granadas. And I always ordered mine with a shot of chocolate. I was 12 at the time. See - I told you I started young!
So I wholeheartedly believe that I’m a victim of the coffee shop generation. Not only do we want coffee - we want it fancy. Like a sugar free, 2 pump, no foam extra hot vanilla latte. I’ve battled hard to fight off my addiction to Venti Skinny Vanilla Lattes. To help me, I was lucky enough to be the recipient of a hand-me-down espresso machine after college. It worked like a charm, but eventually gave way. When I moved to NYC, I knew my addiction would return - there’s a Starbucks on every single corner. So I upgraded to a new fully automatic espresso machine - and my morning beverage is now a homemade 3 shot skim latte. (Side Note - Espresso machines are expensive - but it replaces your daily $5 visit to Starbucks and will pay for itself AND save money in the long run. Do it!)
If I’m too lazy to steam milk, I’ll make an Americano. (Espresso and hot water). If I’m too lazy to make an Americano (read: one too many cocktails the night before) I’m going to Dunkin Donuts. And I’m not ashamed.
That’s my morning bevvy addiction. What’s yours?
